Believe it or not, the answer depends largely on you—not him! According to a research team from Duke University and Rockefeller University, we all have a gene that helps us detect the odor of a certain hormone in male perspiration. But this gene behaves differently in each of us, making us perceive the scent of a man’s sweat either as bitter, as sweet as vanilla or like nothing at all. I’m a vanilla sweat kind of gal. In fact, a particularly sweaty horticulturist I know smells so strongly of vanilla that when he came around, I’d bring up topics to talk about and keep him chatting for over an hour just so I could breathe in his sweet scent! So, what’s male sweat smell like to you?
